Seeing your recent followers on Instagram takes three taps in the app — your followers list is sorted with the newest followers at the top by default. But if you want to see who followed you on a specific date, compare follower lists between two periods, or track recent followers for a public account you do not own, you need a different approach. This guide covers all methods using the Instagram Followers Tracker and Instagram's native tools.
Method 1: View recent followers directly in the Instagram app
The fastest way to see your most recent followers is directly in the Instagram app. Your followers list is sorted reverse-chronologically, so the newest followers always appear first.
Steps on iPhone or Android
- 1.Open Instagram and navigate to your profile by tapping your photo in the bottom-right corner.
- 2.Tap the "Followers" number displayed below your bio.
- 3.Your followers list opens. The accounts at the very top are your most recent followers.
- 4.Scroll down to see followers in reverse order — further down means they followed you longer ago.
- 5.Tap any account to view their profile.
Steps on desktop
- 1.Go to instagram.com and log in.
- 2.Click your profile photo in the top-right to open your profile.
- 3.Click the "Followers" count.
- 4.A modal opens showing followers sorted newest first.
💡For accounts with fewer than 200 followers, the sort order is strictly reverse-chronological. For large accounts, Instagram may show mutual connections or verified accounts first. Use your data export for the most accurate recent followers list.
Method 2: Check recent followers via Instagram notifications
Every new follower triggers a notification. Your notification feed shows all recent follows in chronological order, making it an easy way to see who followed you in the past few days.
- 1.Tap the heart icon in the bottom navigation bar to open your activity feed.
- 2.Look for "started following you" notifications.
- 3.Tap a notification to visit that account's profile.
- 4.Note: Instagram retains notifications for approximately 90 days.
Method 3: See recent followers with exact dates using your data export
Instagram's app shows followers sorted by recency but does not display exact follow dates. To get precise timestamps — useful for understanding which posts drove new followers — you need your Instagram data export.
- 1.Go to Instagram Settings → Account Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information.
- 2.Choose your account, select "Connections (followers and following)" only, set format to JSON, and request the download.
- 3.Instagram emails a link within minutes to a few hours.
- 4.Download and unzip the file. Open connections/followers_and_following/followers_1.json.
- 5.Each entry includes the follower's handle and a Unix timestamp showing the exact date and time they followed you.
- 6.Upload the file to the free Instagram follower tracker online to see this data in a readable format.
Method 4: Track recent followers over time with daily snapshots
If you want to see who followed you on any specific day without exporting data every time, daily snapshot tracking is the most effective approach. The Instagram Followers Tracker records your follower count automatically every 24 hours and builds a growth chart you can analyse at any time.
- 1.Add your Instagram handle to the tracker (no login required — it reads public profile data only).
- 2.The tracker takes an automatic snapshot every day.
- 3.After 7 snapshots, your full growth chart unlocks showing daily follower changes.
- 4.You can see exactly how many followers you gained or lost on any tracked day.
- 5.For a full list of which accounts followed or unfollowed you, combine this with monthly data export uploads.
How to see recent followers for a public account you do not own
You cannot access another account's followers list unless you are signed into that account. However, you can track any public account's follower count over time to see how many new followers they are gaining. This is useful for competitive research, influencer vetting, and benchmarking.
- 1.Visit the free Instagram follower tracker online.
- 2.Enter the public account's Instagram handle.
- 3.The tracker starts recording daily follower snapshots for that account.
- 4.After several days, you can see exactly how many followers they gained or lost each day.
- 5.This does not show individual follower accounts — only count changes — but gives you a precise growth trend.
How to see if a specific account recently followed you
To check whether a specific person recently followed you, open your followers list and use the search bar at the top to search for their username. If their account appears in the search results within your followers list, they follow you. If not, they do not. This search is faster than scrolling through a large followers list.
What to do with your recent followers list
- Identify which content triggered a follower spike and create more of it
- Follow back relevant accounts to build mutual relationships
- Spot bot accounts in your recent followers and remove them by tapping the three dots on their profile → Remove follower
- Identify high-value followers (verified accounts, influencers, potential customers) for targeted engagement
- Monitor for suspicious spikes — a sudden gain of hundreds of followers in one day may indicate purchased followers
- Cross-reference with your Instagram unfollow tracker to see the net change in followers over time
How to remove a recent follower
If you want to remove a recent follower without blocking them, you can do this from your followers list. The account will not be notified that you removed them.
- 1.Open your followers list.
- 2.Find the account you want to remove (use the search bar if needed).
- 3.Tap the three dots (⋯) next to their name.
- 4.Select "Remove".
- 5.The account is removed from your followers. They can still re-follow you.
Using Instagram tracking tools for follower monitoring
For serious follower monitoring, dedicated tracking tools are more powerful than Instagram's native UI. The Instagram tracking tools page lists the best options for tracking recent followers, detecting unfollowers, monitoring follower quality, and analysing growth trends.
